Centercode Release Notes

What's New

The latest updates and improvements to the Centercode platform.

Tis the season for gift giving, and boy do we have a pile of presents for you this month! Refresh your coffee - this one’s a doozie!

December kicked off Centercode’s inaugural 🎊DevJam🎊. We gathered up a huge number of fast but super impactful bugs and improvements from nearly every area of the platform, and our devs competed to implement the highest number, the most valuable, and the most anticipated improvements. The result is a whooole lot of presents under the Centercode tree this year! Vote here for which of these changes you like the best.

And the fun doesn’t stop there: We also hung a few stockings packed to the brim with UI improvements to give Centercode a new look for 2024.

Improvements

A fresh round(ing) of UI improvements!

Not only is it the season for gift giving, it’s the season where we all get dressed up in new sweaters and socks (thanks Grandma!)—and Centercode has a new look to show off as well, with a fresh round(ing) of UI improvements!

New Font

First up, we’ve got a bolder, clearer, more readable global font! Note that if you’ve used CSS to change the font in your site, your customization might need some post-update attention. Let us know so we can help!

New Infoboxes

Next up, a new look for our infoboxes, including a redesigned layout and eye-catching icons for each infobox type!

Rounding

A new rounded look for most buttons, checkboxes, and dropdowns throughout the site! (After all, would it really be the holidays if we didn’t all get a little… rounder?)

DevJam Improvements

An avalanche of improvements!

Without further ado, here is the list of the many, many DevJam improvements! We’ve highlighted a few of the bigger changes and summarized the rest. You’re welcome to reach out to us via in-site chat or email if you’d like clarification on any of these items!

Usability

Adjusted menu flyout sensitivity

" data-embed-image="https://t.gyazo.com/teams/centercode/thumb/1280\_w/eyJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiJ9.eyJpbWciOiJfOTliMmEwNzk4ZTdmZTZlOThlMDA4NmQzZjA5OTg3OTkifQ.NH0UELRTc1L9ZHUZFvaggMiw91VIMxYsu-XfVfPnNdY-gif.jpg" data-embed-signature="3OotQ1CtUvEv0fgG9180Iwxppw0i74fDOzle2qVLhwg" data-embed-url="https://centercode.gyazo.com/ddf6dd8901a68836d3a39f36df8e5cdd">

We increased the “stickiness” of the flyout menus throughout the platform, giving you a little wiggle room if your cursor strays off the menu for even a moment.

Updated the “Submit” button on email send to “Preview”, to highlight that a preview step comes next

The updated button text makes it clearer that you’ll proceed to a typical “preview” step before finalizing the email being sent.

Two buttons were added to the Team management page, allowing you to quickly view the list of users on a given team or jump straight to emailing them

These handy buttons take you to a user list that's filtered to the relevant team and a shortcut for emailing users on that filtered list.

Archiving a resource group now archives the items within

Archiving a resource group (including content, releases, surveys, feedback types, and user profiles) will automatically archive all the resources within it.

A quick “Copy to clipboard” button has been added to invitation type modification pages

Easily grab a link you can paste elsewhere via this handy new button on the Modify this invitation type page!

And more!

  • Added the "type to filter" ability for the timezone drop-down menu on the Account settings page
  • Updated background colors in team blocks that are conditional based on a checkbox
  • Added the outgoing email address to the email log results page
  • Added the user account of each recipient to the email log view page when applicable
  • Improved email log performance by limiting filter results to show a max of 100 email per page (instead of 1,000)
  • Searching by subject line now works appropriately in email logs
  • Added confirmation and error growls to “Mark read” button on the Following page
  • Added commas in list footer values (e.g. 1234 is now 1,234) to improve readability
  • Simplified the process of creating a form group
  • Searching strings now responds to pressing enter instead of requiring you to click "search"
  • Previewing content or releases now appropriately shows the Distributed value block
  • Added new details to theme management including how many projects the theme is used in and when it was last updated
  • Support-type user accounts can now attach files to content
  • In the project summary, Project Manager names now link to that user’s user summary
  • The right panel has been restored after feedback is duplicated

Feedback

We added a hover-tip when using the “previous” and “next” navigation arrows on the Feedback view page

Get a preview of the name and ticket number you’ll be taken to when hovering over the navigation arrows in the feedback ticket view! This way, you’ll always know which feedback is coming up next.

Added a setting to allow replies after feedback is put into a resolved state

This new option will allow new replies on closed feedback so discussion can continue on feedback you have marked as resolved. This gives you more flexibility in how you use resolved statuses.

And more!

  • Feedback button links now show unread feedback, as opposed to YOUR feedback
  • Added distributed values to the feedback view
  • The duplicate feedback box now has appropriate empty message formatting, and converts to a button when results are found
  • Navigation buttons are no longer lost after marking feedback duplicate
  • Activity completion now consistently directs testers to the correct feedback type

Surveys

A list of users who’ve completed a specific survey is now one click away

This handy new button takes you directly to a filtered user list of user accounts who have completed the survey!

You'll automatically proceed to create your first form element after creating a new survey

When customers create a new survey, it's obviously pretty common to add questions to it. We've shaved off the manual step of clicking the "Add a form element" button to make the survey creation process just a little bit smoother.

And more!

  • An explanation message now displays when viewing a survey that has been removed

Recruitment

We’ve updated the “go back” (aka “Never mind”) functionality when preparing onboarding emails

When previewing an email before sending it, the “Never mind” button will now return you to the email editing screen, allowing you to easily make last-minute changes instead of getting kicked all the way back to editing the invitation type.

Project/Community invite has been updated to resend the invitation when requested, even if the user already existed in the invitation type

Quick invite emails sent using the “Invite to Community” or “Invite to Project” button are no longer limited to a single instance per email address. If a user reports not receiving an email invite sent this way, now you can simply invite them again without digging into Recruiting!

Get quick access to the link associated with a URL link invitation type by using the new button added to the Recruitments pages!

And more!

  • Added clarity to Project Manager & Support invite restriction
  • Removing URL links will now release that URL for use in other recruitments

Dashboards

The Delta Huddle dashboard now has an outro slide

" data-embed-image="https://t.gyazo.com/teams/centercode/thumb/1280\_w/eyJhbGciOiJIUzI1NiJ9.eyJpbWciOiJfYTA2Y2Y0NzJjNzc4ZjA5MjdmNzMyZmY1MjQ5NTQ2MDkifQ.weDCLEjHnfXRoVnnDBkVrUic0XeVInoUgEc5fXHlS\_w-gif.jpg" data-embed-signature="X1ejrGuq3W6mK1YZjglKxHOWXgphGM3oC9FfEhQvOb3" data-embed-url="https://centercode.gyazo.com/d8ab2db529950f9f5d896ff75fb97a8e">

The presentation mode view of the Delta Huddle dashboard now has a slide indicating the presentation is finished before looping back to the beginning.

We added a new button in the navigation menu that points to Delta Huddle dashboard during an engagement phase

****Projects in an engagement phase will automatically populate a (dismissible) link to the Delta Huddle dashboard in the menu bar, giving you easy access to this powerful tool with a single click!

And more!

  • Increased visibility of the Delta Huddle dashboard in the dashboard list

Filters/Views

We introduced a smarter default state for new filters, resulting in fewer clicks

****New filters will now automatically start with the “Add filter” button pre-selected and the data set drop-down menu ready to go, saving you clicks!

We’ve added a confirmation pop-up to the “Remove filter/view” button

This new confirmation window for the “Remove Filter/View” button ensures that a misclick doesn’t lead to accidentally removing a valuable resource.

And more!

  • Removed the old data engine item (“User Active”) due to being a legacy, unused feature
  • Updated “Project teams” Data set to “Project activity” to better represent its function
  • Added a “Never mind” button when creating a filter or view

Form engine

We’ve added hover effect when dragging a file to upload onto the file element

" data-embed-image="https://t.gyazo.com/teams/centercode/cad7dc2e48e47d00d4ea978709a7ad4a.gif" data-embed-signature="d5ze61BtdtV9ajtiWa0Z1cg147jtVI5Y3Odl6sOf8OH" data-embed-url="https://centercode.gyazo.com/cad7dc2e48e47d00d4ea978709a7ad4a">

This new hover-over effect makes it clearer that your aim is on point as you drag and drop files into a file attachment form element.

A quick sentence-case tool was added to form element titles

We’ve expanded our content title sentence casing tool to include form elements, making it easier for you to keep all your titles (resources, forms, etc.) cased the same way.

Performance

User logins are now being counted the same way across the system

The login count used by the data engine has been changed to match the same criteria used by the user summary login count page for the sake of consistency. This also means that “# logins” consistently follows a more typical definition of a login, i.e. authentication into a new session.

The “Exclude” option in the email log filter now works appropriately

We fixed an underlying issue that was preventing the “Exclude” option for email log filter fields from functioning as intended!

And more!

  • The loading spinner for adding an avatar will now appropriately disappear if the upload fails
  • The user data snapshot at the top of the user summary now appropriately hides if it’s empty
  • Fixed the contact admin button on opt-out
  • Numerous back-end changes to improve performance, modernize our stack, and generally make Centercode better

Reports

Grouping by date fields now groups by the day and doesn’t include the time

Grouping reports/lists by date will now exclusively look at the date submitted and not the time submitted. Don’t worry though—when not used in grouping, date/time data items will still show the time.

And more!

  • Corrected alignment of report icons

Ted

Activating Ted no longer creates an unnecessary new tab

Previously, activating Ted would open Ted’s settings in a new browser tab after confirmation. Now clicking the activate Ted button will take you straight to the Ted settings page in the same tab!

And more!

  • Improved plural references in Ted’s admin daily update emails
  • Improved Ted settings title

Test planning

Updated the “activity incomplete” message visual

The “Activity incomplete” message was updated to include a new icon and dark visuals, making it clearer to testers that the activity is considered incomplete and they have a limited time to finish it.

And more!

  • We now offer a better inline explanation of the unique traits of phaseless features
  • Removed an unnecessary border on the Feature Overview page that testers see

UI

User cards are now accessible from the Quick search menu, providing access to useful data like teams, project scores, and contact information at a glance!

New Login and Recruitment Experience

Our major focus this month is a series of new features and improvements all related to our login and recruitment experience, all designed to reduce friction and streamline the login experience to get those users engaged and testing!

Keep the porch light on with Central Sign-in!

First up, we’ve got a great new way to ensure your testers are sure to find their way to your door with Centercode’s new Central Sign-in page. This handy new tool helps both you AND your testers navigate between different communities leveraging the Centercode Platform!

Navigating to https://signin.centercode.com (after Oct 22) will present your users with a list of every testing site that they have previously signed in to, with handy shortcut tiles to each one.

And for those concerned about test security, your site will only appear if you’ve opted your implementation into this feature, and all of the information displayed here is stored entirely client-side.

Whether you’re a project manager working across multiple implementations, or a particularly enthusiastic and prolific tester (or maybe both!), the Central Sign-in page will make tracking all your tests a breeze.

Decorate your Centercode porch!

While not particularly spooky, would it really be Halloween season without doing a little decorating on your porch? We thought not—that’s why this batch of improvements focuses on the literal front door of your testing site: a brand new login and recruitment landing page experience!

You'll see a brand new sign-in interface, now located on the left side of the screen. This refreshed panel preserves the same functionality as the previous landing pages, but with a more compact and modern design that cleanly presents your site's SSO options!

Give those Trick-or-Testers some options!

With all that new screen real estate to work with, we’ve also included some exciting additional community landing page functionality in our new testing opportunity cards! You can now add a link to your sign-in page that connects users with any community or project URL invitation you choose. It’s a fantastic way to get users into your open recruitment projects or to segment your users as they join the community via specific recruitments!

A terrifyingly efficient new way to configure SSO!

We’ve already mentioned quite a few new SSO features and improvements, but the fun doesn’t stop there. We also put some work into creating a more elegant and consistent SSO login integration interface. We’ve streamlined, simplified, and cleaned up the pages and tools used to manage and create SSO sign-ins, as well as adding some new functionality to the existing pages.

We’ve reorganized the pages to improve navigation, and we've included new hover tips and clarifying the language to make setting up or managing this technical process more approachable to you and your IT department. We’ve also added functionality that gives you more control over user access with SSO, such the ability to add users who sign in through a given SSO to specific teams or lock users to signing in with one specific SSO configuration.

A ghoulish new Google Auth option!

There’s no better way to get those Trick-or-Testers knocking at your door than to give them an easy way to enter your testing site. We're proud to introduce Centercode’s brand-new first class Google Auth SSO option! It removes the hassle of remembering display names and passwords—meaning more user engagement for your community and projects. It's a familiar and frictionless way for users to sign up or sign in to your site without sacrificing security.

This ready-out-of-the-box SSO option is available on all Centercode editions, and makes setting up one of the most widely used and recognized single sign-on options as easy as clicking a button! This will be enabled by default for our Beta, Delta, and Pro editions. Users of our Team and Legacy editions can simply navigate to your custom SSO page, select the new CentercodeGoogle option, enable it with a few clicks, and you’re good to go!

A whole new way (not?) to invite the vampires in!

And finally, one last treat to top off your candy bucket: We’ve got a refresh of the Recruiting feature! All the functionality you're used to is still there, but you'll see we've simplified our vocabulary and made navigating the process more intuitive.

Centercode admins can invite users to project recruitments (formerly opportunities) with a variety of invitation types (formerly sources). For ease of use, these invitation types are categorized into open and targeted invitations, with descriptions that help you identify exactly how you're bringing participants into your community and projects!

Just be wary of inviting any particularly pale or pointy-toothed testers, unless you’ve got plenty of garlic on hand!

Improvements

User Summary mad science!

We took your feedback on our new User Summary interface, and with a little late-night mad science we think we’ve got all parts sewn together just the way you want!

One of the primary concerns we heard about the new User Summary was losing an easy one-click way to view and access a user’s various community and project level key data (surveys, test platforms, distributed values, agreements, etc.) The new “User data snapshot” located at the top of both community and project level user summary pages keeps that data front and center with buttons to take you right to what you need to see!

Another popular request was the ability to easily see which roles a user was in across a variety of projects without having to navigate to each project individually. To solve this issue we’ve added a new information card when mousing over individual projects in the user scorecard, allowing you to see this information as well as navigate to that project directly from the card!

In addition, we’ve made numerous smaller tweaks to the language and information displayed by some of the user engagement cards, as well as organizing the user journey information via relative date (with the full date available on hover.)

" data-embed-image="https://i.vimeocdn.com/video/1723021815-d34aa3b0ee86c22c6ed7ef21735250a7d441d83d33d72e0e98f23316777e56d1-d\_426" data-embed-signature="BV2mvZAWyWJHkXpxOydsnUEINvzoGoY1TIX4NX8PNMI" data-embed-url="https://vimeo.com/863727066">

New Features

Leaf behind unneeded tools and free up some screen space!

Centercode’s dashboards are a powerful, customizable way to present your project data, and we give you a lot of tools and options to present that data just the way you want. However, once you’ve got the filters set just right, wouldn’t it be nice to get a bit of that screen real estate back so you can bask in the full glory of all that data? Well, we’ve got you covered!

We’ve added a simple but very handy new button to the dashboard header toolbar that allows you to do just that. The “Collapsed header mode” button will collapse the header bar and hide everything but a lower profile version of the dashboard select drop-down, providing you a much cleaner view of the data that you’re there to see!

New Features

Now entering beta: Enhanced Ted Customization

Hot on the heels of last month’s Test Infographic Dashboard beta feature, we’ve got the next beta feature release ready to go, and this is one a lot of you have been clamoring for: Enhanced Ted Customization! We’re keeping the description short and sweet (with maybe a hint of pumpkin spice) this month, but if you see anything you can’t wait to try, sign up and get early access to the feature, as well as the opportunity to provide your feedback and shape the future of Centercode!

Ted is a helpful guy, but we think he can be better! Faster! Stronger! Maybe a little less talkative! This month’s beta feature release allows you to choose how often Ted contacts your testers, as well as a new set of customizations, including his name, email signature, and custom avatars!

All paying customers interested in testing this new feature can sign up at any time—plus, you get the experience of being a tester in a Centercode-managed test and a first-hand view of our own best practices.

Announcements

It’s time for our August release, and your ears don’t deceive you—that’s the Centercode Ice Cream (and Release) Truck rolling up the street with a cool new opportunity we can’t wait for you to try! We’re doing things a little differently this month in preparation for a whole new method of delivering Centercode content to you.

We’ve heard from you many times that you’d like to be able to get your hands on some of our upcoming features and improvements while they’re still in development, and this month we’re bringing you the opportunity to do just that!

A hands-on sneak peek

As you might imagine, beta testing the beta testing platform has a very unique set of challenges. As such, we're always working to learn and improve, and with this month's Centercode release, we're taking a big step in evolving our own process by shifting to a feature-flag based testing model.

Moving forward, rather than features being introduced publicly solely through monthly updates, primarily to those with dedicated staging infrastructure, we'll be making key features available via a simple opt-in basis. This gives many more of our customers the opportunity to experience them and provide feedback than our prior early access program have done.

Note that we'll still be rolling out bug fixes and minor improvements both weekly and monthly, as well as new features that don't fit the feature-flag based approach - but whenever possible, we'll lean on this new model to ensure that we get the most feedback, resulting in the best release possible.

Given the transition to this new model, we won't be introducing major new production features in our August release. Rather, we're inviting customers to join our beta for our next major feature release. We intend to release this feature to production in September, resuming our monthly feature releases from that point.

Now entering beta: Centercode Test Infographic

For our first beta feature release, we're excited to present our upcoming Test Infographic dashboard! This infographic comes in two primary variants.

The first offers a beautiful overview of your test results, including your team, feedback collated and acted on, and much much more. This is intended to be shared with internal audiences within your company, spreading awareness for your program and test results.

The second infographic offers a similar but more limited view, intended explicitly for a public audience of testers, recognizing and celebrating their efforts (excluding PII, of course) throughout your test.

Each infographic deeply showcases your branding and can cover an entire project or any fixed period you define. Given their motivational intent, our infographics focus exclusively on positive insights and outcomes, deliberately prioritizing inspiration over actionability, while also giving the ability to exclude any panel you wish.

All paying customers interested in testing this new feature can sign up at any time, which will also offer the experience of being a tester in a Centercode-managed test, providing a first-hand view of our own best practices.
