Weekly Patch - October 11, 2026

Onboarding/Recruiting

Preview experience now walks the whole onboarding flow

What we fixed: When you used Preview experience to check a community's onboarding, the preview could stop partway through on a generic "Please contact the site administrator regarding this error" page. It usually happened at an automated onboarding step (a notice macro), right after an earlier step, like a profile or survey that moves people between teams, changed what the preview user could access. Now the preview keeps going: each automated step the preview user can still run completes on its own, and any step they no longer have access to is skipped. No more dead ends!

See it in action:

  1. Open Preview experience and pick the teams you want the preview user on.
  2. Set Starting point to Community notices (or Project notices from inside a project). Don't pick one of the "skip notices" options, since those bypass onboarding entirely.
  3. Click Preview user experience and walk through the onboarding steps just like a new member would.
  4. Watch it carry you all the way to the home page, even when one step changes the preview user's teams. Smooth sailing from start to finish. 🎉

Good to know:

  • Real members never hit this. It only affected preview sessions, and regular members' onboarding works exactly as it did before.
  • Automated steps run behind the scenes, so you won't see a separate page for them. If a preview seems to "jump" past a step, that's expected: the step either ran quietly or was skipped because the preview user's teams no longer qualify for it.
  • Cleanup is automatic. When you're done, click Return to my account. The temporary preview user and everything it did are removed.
